What You Need To Know About Knives

By: Greg K. Hansward

If you are shopping for a good knife, there are a number of things you will need to know. Different types of knife blades have different flexibilities and strengths, for different uses and purposes. Make sure you take all of these factors into account if you are looking for the right knife for your particular situation.

A knife with a drop point blade will have a slow curve on the point, allowing a great deal of control for deep cutting. This increased strength will be important on a camping or hunting trip since you do not know what you may encounter on your trip, and you have to be ready for anything. If you are looking for a knife that is both easy to use and yet very powerful for cutting, the drop point blade is ideal.

A blade with a clip will allow even more control than the drop point blade for the user. The control in a clip joint blade also gives you a great deal more precision in addition to the control afforded, for whatever you are working on. Clip point knives have a curved belly that will make slicing more easy. The greater control and the slicing ability will allow for making cuts and adjustments with ease, features you may find very important in certain situations.

A Tanto blade will give you an incredible amount of straight and sharpness. The thick flat design of this blade, instead of being bulky, nevertheless gives a very sharp edge to the knife. This is because of the bottom edge and the obtuse point that the knife has. The Tanto blade is specifically designed to give great strength with an extremely sharp point.

A sheepsfoot blade is for anyone who is looking for a good slicing knife. A sheepsfoot blade will give a better slice than a knife with a clip point, and is especially meant for this use, slicing rather than cutting. The sheepsfoot blade is very popular among paramedics and other emergency responders since they can easily cut through a seat belt, without risk to the victim.
