The Beauty Of Wood Railings

By: Mr.Andrew Caxton

Nothing else can add character to your home like adding wood railings. No matter where you need railings-on the porch or deck-you will find that they are beautiful and enhance the look of your home.

Wood railings are a very popular choice for many homeowners. Learning more about the different types of wood available and the care and maintenance of wood railings will help you to determine if it is the right choice for your home.

Wood railings are loved for their stylish and traditional look over other materials that are available. There is nothing else that has quite the same feel as wood railings with their elegant and beautiful feel. Stone and metal railings just cannot compare to this beautiful and elegant railing choice due to their coldness and lack of character.

Wood Railings Popularity Decreasing

With all of the many newer materials that are available, the popularity of wood railings is gradually decreasing. One reason that this is happening is that it is often time consuming to maintain a wood railing to keep it looking beautiful. It needs to be polished, sanded, and painted or stained regularly to help keep it looking as beautiful as the day it was installed and unless you enjoy that type of work, you will have to hire someone to take care of this for you. This is why the DIY lovers are still in love with wood railings, because it offers them a chance to spread their DIY wings.

Choosing Cedar Railings

There are two different kinds of cedar that cedar railings are constructed of. These two varieties of cedar are hand peeled cedar and milled cedar. Milled cedar gives the cedar wood railings a smoother look when compared to the railings that are constructed of the cedar that is hand peeled from the tree. The peeled cedar will offer you more of the natural character details of the cedar tree and it is also disease and decay resistant. It also helps to use the entire tree. The smell and look of the entire cedar tree is offered to the consumer who decides on cedar railings. Cedar railings come in a couple of different varieties, too.

Red and white are the two varieties of cedar that you can choose from for your cedar railings. White cedar is color consistent over the life of the wood railings, but there may be some change in color in the red cedar railings, so you will want to take that into consideration. You will find that cedar railings can last you quite a long time if you take care of it and keep moisture away from the cedar wood as much as possible.
