T+ Medical and LifeScan Team Up to Manage Diabetes

By: Julia Hanf

Diabetes leads to increasing blood sugar levels, which ultimately ends up in deadly consequences to the body like loss of vision, heart diseases, kidney failure etc. Diabetes has severe effects on Insulin dependents rather than non-dependents.

Insulin deficiency in the body causes diabetes. Insulin, which is secreted by islet cells in the pancreas, performs two major functions in the body. The food is broken down to glucose, which is used as energy for the body and it is the Insulin which helps to move the glucose, fat and protein into the cells where energy is produced. The second major function of Insulin is to lower the sugar levels, which tend to increase when the glucose enters into the blood. The two categories of diabetes are Type1 and Type2. In type 1 diabetes, the body can not produce Insulin whereas in Type 2 diabetes, body is able to produce Insulin but the cells in the body are not able to respond to the insulin. And in type 2 diabetes, it is hard to identify the disease in initial stages and the disease slowly and gradually damages the body.

Now you might be thinking, how you can treat this, right? Treatment is not that difficult provided you are maintaining your proper diet, doing regular exercise, stress controlling & Depression control. To maintain the equilibrium of the glucose level, it's important to keep a well balanced diet. If you have to define the well balanced diet, it should be healthy diet which should be low in cholesterol, sugar, fats & must include the green leafy vegetables. For type 1 patients insulin is the most vital drug. Exercising would also help you in maintaining the blood sugar level. IF, by any chance the above precautionary measures are unable to solve the purpose then oral medication is the solution. Researches are going on and the scientists are really putting their hard work to develop a new method which is more effective to fight against this disease. Once this research is successful, there will be no need of taking Insulin shots and this technique is getting developed by transformation of the stem cells of human into mice.

Over 15 million citizens of USA suffering from diabetes are dependent on daily Insulin shots. Lowering down the blood pressure, level of cholesterol and the glucose level in the blood are the keys to have a control on this disease. People who smoke are more at risk as smoking activates heart disease and the rate is also higher for diabetic people. So, all people suffering from diabetes should quit smoking if they are looking to fight against this disease.
