Straight Facts About Cold Sore Symptoms?

By: Denny Bodoh..

It is critical for you to know these cold sore symptoms in order to cope with them - and is the first step in reducing or eliminating these outbreaks. As you will see, each stage of a cold sore has its identifying cold sore symptoms.

At the time you are first infected with the cold sore virus, you will get a particular set of cold sore symptoms that only occur once. Your symptoms may include headache, fever, swollen lymph glands. Also, a sore throat is quite common.

Your initial symptoms will occur about 13 to 16 days after exposure and can last about three to four days. They may be so mild that you will not know it is anything important. They also could be severe enough that you may think you have the flu or bad cold. You may or may not get a cold sore this time, but most people do not.

NOTE: All cold sore symptoms are caused by active herpes simplex virus. This virus only becomes active to create new virus on the surface of your face. About 90% of the planet population carry the virus by the time they are 10 years old. Most of the time it is latent and hiding in the nerve cells deep within the nerve fibers.

You will never be bothered with cold sore symptoms when the herpes virus is latent. About a third of those infected will never experience an active cold sore. For the rest of us, we can expect a cold sore once every 8 months. Many folks will get six or more per year.

Your cold sore symptoms of the first stage of an outbreak is a combination of itching, burning, tingling and a dry feeling at the site of the future cold sore. These are often so mild you may not notice them. These symptoms tell you that a cold sore could be a few hours to two days away.

Your cold sore symptoms greatly accelerate at this point. You will notice swelling of the cold sore site and the development of small, hard, pimple-like bumps that are quite painful. It is common at this point for you to experience a slight fever, headaches, and a general tired feeling. Your under-jaw lymph glands begin to swell.

Now your hard, painful bumps will swell, burst and merge into on open cold sore wound. This is quite painful as the sore is built on the end of your nerves in that area. You will likely get a runny nose, headaches, and increased fever-like conditions.

This is probably your most painful time. You will find the lymph glands under the jaw are now quite swollen and painful also. Your sore will be draining a clear fluid packed with cold sore virus. You are especially contagious at this time.

Within a couple days a yellowish scab will form - beginning the healing process. You will find it still painful to touch it. Your scab can crack when you move your mouth causing a lot of pain. Your fever, headaches and swollen glands should be letting up now. Your cold sore will continue to itch as healing takes place.

Your scab will last up to a week. When it falls off, you will see new skin. Healing will still be taking place below this skin for one to two more weeks. Your cold sore symptoms now are continued itching and redness in the area. Your headache and fever should be done. Your swollen glands should be nearly back to normal.

During your final healing process, the cold sore could come back again. Keep using your best cold sore treatment during this time. If you are taking a vitamin supplement or lysine, keep doing so. This is the easiest time to get a repeat attach of a cold sore.

Just one more thing. There is so much more to tell you about cold sores that I just don't have the space here to do it - but I do want to give this important fact.

Cold sores can be spread quite easily to others or to other locations on yourself. Please be cautious as the cold sore virus is very contagious from the first tingle to the final disappearance of these cold sore symptoms.
