Stop Snoring Remedy

Finding an effective stop snoring remedy is simpler than most people make it out to be. Not many understand that snoring is actually a symptom, not a condition. What is it a symptom of? Often, snoring is the result of a narrow airway in the throat. The throat partially closes during sleep and air passing through causes the tissue to vibrate thereby creating the snoring sound. So, the problem here is not the snoring, but the narrow airway. Treat what is causing the narrow airway and you will stop your snoring.

Let me warn you of something before I continue the stop snoring remedy. If you are snoring on a nightly basis, or at least frequently, you need to tell your doctor as soon as you can. Frequent snoring often means that the sufferer is a candidate for obstructive sleep apnea, which is a potential dangerous condition that if not treated can possibly cause brain damage. Be sure your doctor is aware of your condition.

So, if the cause of snoring is a narrow airway, then what is a good stop snoring remedy? There is an easy one and a hard one. Let's look at the hard stop snoring remedy first.

If a narrow airway is the result of you being overweight, then an obvious stop snoring remedy is to lose some weight. This can be easier than you think. Start by setting very small and doable goals. For example, set a goal to lose 10 pounds, and when you lose it celebrate like crazy. Perhaps your snoring will stop or at least decrease. Keep losing a little weight until your snoring decreases significantly or stops all together. You will also feel better as a result of being healthier.

In addition to losing weight, there are several stop snoring home remedies that you can implement simultaneously. Some examples are sleeping on your side or not smoking right before going to bed.

The second and easier stop snoring remedy is to tone up the muscles in your throat. When you sleep, the muscles in your throat relax as do the ones in the rest of your body. If the tissue is fatty, it will cause the airway to narrow significantly and cause you to snore. However, there are several exercises you can use that tone up this tissue so it doesn't narrow the airway and cause you to snore.

Now, if your snoring is infrequent, then you may not need to lose weight or do throat exercises. The best stop snoring remedy for you is a snoring spray or one of the other many stop snoring devices. Sprays and devices, by the way, should not be the only stop snoring remedy for chronic snoring. They are only a short term solution while you address the bigger causes of your snoring, like being overweight.
