State Unemployment Insurance - Do You Qualify For Assistance?

State unemployment insurance is designed to provide unemployment insurance benefits to workers who are eligible and become unemployed by no fault of their own, and who meet state eligibility requirements will be entitled to Federal State unemployment insurance.

State unemployment insurance is designed for temporary financial assistance to those in the work force who are laid off by their employer due to a shortage of work. You must qualify in your state. If you are unsure obtain the unemployment insurance guidelines for your state.

If you are laid off apply for unemployment benefits right away. Filing starts your claim and then if you meet the requirements for your state you will be sent your activated claim. State unemployment insurance requirements can vary between states but in most states you have to worked four of the last five quarters, as well as a minimum number of hours, and you must have become unemployed because of a lack of available work.

You apply for unemployment benefits in the local state unemployment insurance office. You should receive a check in two to three weeks. Usually you have one week of disqualification. When you go in to apply for unemployment benefits bring your documentation with you. You will need your hours worked, when you started working there and when you finished, as well as your insurable hours.

You will file your report cards biweekly and you will be required to report any hours you may have worked as well as then earnings attached to those hours. Earnings over a certain point are deducted dollar for dollar off your check.

When you file for state unemployment insurance benefits you can be required to report to the State Employment Service office so they can help you find gainful employment. Even if you are not required to register it is still your responsibility to seek gainful employment.

The Employment Service offices have all the information on current market conditions, and plenty of free tools to help you find employment, even some free retraining seminars. Although State unemployment insurance may require you to register, you should do so no matter what because they are a valuable resource when you are looking for new employment. They can even help you if you are able to relocate. They can refer you to training programs, and they can do skill testing to help you determine what skills you have that are marketable.

State unemployment insurance won't pay you benefits if you left the job on your own unless there are extenuating circumstances, if you did not have enough worked hours or not in the right time frame. If you are unsure if you qualify apply for unemployment and they will let you know whether you qualify. If you've been working regularly chances are you qualify for unemployment insurance benefits.

If benefits for state unemployment insurance are established you will be entitled to receive a percentage of your earnings over the past 52 weeks to a maximum benefit amount. You can receive unemployment insurance benefits for 26 weeks in most of the states and if you live in an area where unemployment is high you may be entitled to additional weeks.

State unemployment insurance is designed as protection for you should you become unemployed and qualify for benefits. You should take advantage of these benefits anytime you qualify for they will relieve some of the stress of being unemployed at least for a short time.
