Review Of Xbox's "The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion" On My HDTV

By: John Wilkerson

The "Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion has to be one of the best looking games yet.  As you might already know the game looks best in HD and so does every other game.  If you do not have a HDTV then I would suggest that you go out and buy one soon.  It makes everything you do on your TV look four times better than it did before.  Things in the background that were blurry are now crystal clear.  Now this game is the definition of the phrase “Do what ever you want”.

You could start out by following the main story line or by going off in the middle of no where and finding some dungeons to explore.  Another thing you could do is go into the cities and just talk to people to see whats up.  By doing this you could find little side stories to go and complete to earn your self a new item.  Also this game is a RPG if you did not know that already.  In the beginning when you get to design your character you can change just about every little detail you can think of on a human’s face and what ever race you decide to choose. This is really an amazing feature especially if you are viewing it on a HDTV!

You also get to choose what class you want to be.  I, on the other hand would recommend making your own class.  By doing that you can choose just what you want to be doing in the game.  Something that I found a lot of fun is doing the arena.  If you go into the imperial city arena you can become a gladiator.  First you start out as just a pit dog as the lowest rank. As you kill your way up to the top by defeating your opponents you gain money.  This is a very easy and fast way to earn lots of money so you can buy a horse to travel around faster or do something else with.

You can also bet on arena matches and watch two people fight to the death but make sure you save it before you bet just in case you lose.  However that is an issue with this game.  If you do not save it for a while and you die you have to start from where you last saved it.  This is how just about every RPG works and it is something you have to get used to.  There is an auto save but that only saves it when you walk through a door, so if you entered a dungeon got to the very last part and died with out saving it well then be ready to do it all over again.  Every character in The Elder Scrolls 4 has voice acting.

So there really wont be a lot of reading.  This game also has one of the best facial detail I have ever seen in a video game and you really wont get the same experience unless the game is viewed on a HDTV.  Don’t be afraid to go out and buy an HDTV you will not regret doing so, they are becoming very inexpensive.  So anyways the game has some of the most non linear game play I have ever came across except maybe some of the grand theft auto games.  But this game is really not for anyone that is not already a fan of RPGs.  You will have a rough time learning how to play one and getting used to everything that is in them.
