Recommended Pieces for the Foot of Your Bed

By:

Are you one of those fortunate people who have a bedroom large enough for another piece of furniture at the foot of your bed? Whether for beauty or function, there are plenty of ways to use this space. If you want, this space can be taken advantage of to display a choice piece from a flea market, or you can just add your own. It all depends on the space you have and what you want to use it for. Here are some things you might want to consider for placing at the foot of your bed.

Storage Bench – It doesn’t matter if you choose either an upholstered or a wooden piece; a storage bench gives you an excellent place to stow your linen, pillows, blankets, etc. It's a nice place to sit to put on shoes and socks and also a handy place to put your bedding at night.

Low Cabinet or Trunk – While a long, low piece may look better in most rooms, even a taller piece will work well. The drawers are great for linen storage, books, craft supplies, and CD's or DVD's that you might use in your bedroom. A trunk can hold pillows and blankets. A nice piece of wood furniture gives a good balance to a bedroom's upholstered look.

Chairs – If you often read in your bedroom, you could place one or two armchairs at the end of your bed. An ottoman and a reading lamp will provide you with a comfy, relaxing nook anytime during the day or night.

Wicker or Iron Seating – The foot of a bed is a great place to put a unique piece of furniture, one that has "character.". Iron and wicker look great in casual interiors or rooms with a vintage look. Add a pretty plaid or floral cushion to match up with the décor of the room.

TV Cabinet – The newest "must-have" for a bedroom is a cabinet with a TV that you can control with the touch of a remote control button. Think about it; you’ll have a bench or cabinet during the day and an eye-level flat-screen TV at night! This option is quite costly, though, so be prepared to shell out a bit more for this.

Table – If you have a small round, oblong, or oval table, this will work perfectly. Get a floor-length tablecloth that matches your room. You can even add a small side chair if you have the space for it. A side table or a pedestal can be used for your CDs, DVDs, books, picture frames, or even a small TV or boombox. The table should not be more than 8" taller than the top of your mattress.

Loveseat – Putting a loveseat at the end of a king or queen-sized bed also works great. Have a good floor lamp near by for reading and decorate the loveseat with a soft blanket and pretty decorative pillows.

Writing Desk – Adding a writing desk to the foot of your bed allows you to use your bedroom as a cozy study. You can read a book, write letters, make your shopping list or make a phone call in the comfort of your bedroom.

These are just a few of the pieces that you can use to add that extra touch to your bedroom. With a little bit of creativity, you can find some more ideas to put at the end of your bed.
