Quick and Easy Cleaning Ideas

By: Enriq Roalette

Once you make the commitment to cleaning up your home, the biggest issue is how to get it done thoroughly and quickly. Here are some ideas that will make it quick and easy.

1. Cleaning Shower Curtains - Your best weapon against soap scum is white vinegar. Cleaning shower curtains can be accomplished by throwing them into the clothes washer. Use a quarter to a half cup of white vinegar instead of detergent.

2. Cleaning Shower Walls - Cleaning shower walls is not nearly as hard as many people make it. Use a floor mop. You will still have to twist a bit, but it will be much easier on your body. For cleaning products, use basic dishwasher soap.

3. Dirty Piano Keys – If you tickle the ivories, they inevitably will get dirty. Dab them with a towel soaked in lemon juice. It will sound terrible, but they will be clean.

4. Tea as a Magic Fabric Restorer - If you have faded fabric, it is time to make tea. Make a pot of strong tea and let it cool. Dip a cotton towel in it and lightly dab it onto the faded fabric. Tea dabbing is not a cure all, but it works in many situations.

5. Cleaning Gloves – When you are cleaning, gloves are critical. By definition, you are usually using abrasive chemicals to scrub off dirt, grime, mold and other unsavory things. This can absolutely destroy your hands, so make sure to protect them!

6. Stop Flies Inside – To get rid of flies, hang cloves in your rooms. Flies hate them much like vampires hate garlic. Yes, it really works. No promises on the vampires!

7. Allergies and Cleaning – If you have allergies, take your medication before cleaning your place. Cleaning is primarily about the removal of dirt and dust.

8. Dirt on Ceilings – Despite the best efforts of gravity, dirt and dust will get on your ceilings. Put on some goggles and wipe the ceiling with a mop. Definitely wear your cleaning clothes for this one.

9. Garbage Disposal Smell – Does your garbage disposal smell to high heaven? Cut up some lemons and throw them in with the rinds still on. Run water and turn the disposal on. Always does the trick unless something has died.

10. Mixing Cleaning Products – Cleaning products are chemical mixtures and should never be mixed. The chemical in one product may react with those in another. Burns and explosions are possible.

You spend more time in your home than anywhere else. Cleaning it top to bottom every so once in a while makes absolute sense. After all, who wants to live in a dump?
