Planning to Re-Model your Kitchen?

By:

Are you looking to remodel your kitchen? If you are, here are some constructive Feng Shui knowledge that may be useful to you.

In Feng Shui, the stove, microwave and other similar items are characterized as the ‘fire’ element. On the other hand, the fridge, wash basin and other similar items are classified as ‘water’ elements. There is a clash or destructive relationship between ‘fire’ and ‘water’ which is not welcomed.

Hence when you lay out these items in the kitchen, you should ensure that there is at least one foot (two feet is better) between them. The stove and the wash basin especially should also not confront each other directly as this is seen as a clash between ‘fire’ and ‘water’. They can be positioned side by side separate by a distance of between 1-2 feet or they can be positioned at right angle to each other. The back of the stove should ideally be backed by a wall.

The toilet is also classified under the element ‘water’ and it clash with the ‘fire’ of the stove. The stove should not be positioned against a shared wall with the toilet. It would be disastrous if the WC is exactly behind. Another possible clash is when the stove directly faces the toilet door. You should change the location of the door or relocate the stove. In the event that you cannot do anything, the only solution left is to fix an automatic door closer so that the toilet is closed when not in used.

In Feng Shui, it is believed that overhead beams can apply a detrimental downward force and it is unfavorable form to have someone standing beneath for long period of time. Therefore when looking for a suitable place for the stove, position it in such a way that the cook is not standing directly under an overhead beam.

In some duplex design, there is a bedroom on top of the kitchen. It is quite possible that the bed is located directly above the stove. This is not a good form. You should either relocate the stove or the bed. Lookout also for the toilet on the upper level. It should not be located directly on top of the stove.

The kitchen is a hot place and classified under the element ‘fire’. You should not increase the heat by using a ‘fire’ type of color schemes such as the colors red and orange. You should also not use much of the color green as it represents wood which produce fire! Colors such as blue (which represents water), yellow (which represents earth) and white (which represents metal) are more suitable as they have a moderating effect on fire.

A house is exposed to annual changing energies, some of which are good and some are not. You should not remodel the kitchen if it is exposed to inauspicious energy as the refurbishment may ‘trigger’ the inauspicious energies and cause the bad effects to happen. For example you should defer renovating the kitchen in 2007 if it is located in the NE sector of the house. For 2008 the inauspicious sector is S. This is followed by N, SW, E, SE, Center, NW and W in the following years.
