Organizing Your Bedroom Closet

How a bedroom closet organizer will work. Picking the right one for your needs and how to put it in yourself.

We all make resolutions to straighten out our closets one of these days, but it is such a big job that we just keep putting it off. It is not such a big job if you just try to do it one step at a time.

The first step is to sort through all of the things in the closet. You will be surprised at how many things are cluttering your closet that you do not even need any more. Take everything out of the closet and start three piles: one to keep, one to throw away or sell and one to discard. To yourself a favor and throw those out immediately so you won't tempted to get them back.

Of the items that you have kept, now is the time to organize them. Put them in piles of like items, shoes with shoes, pants with pants, etc.

Now you have a good idea of how much you have to put back in the closet, and the next step is to see how much room you have. If you don't have enough room, you may need an additional closet, but maybe a closet organizer will work to give you extra space in the closet you have.

Getting a closet organizer will utilize a lot of dead space in your closet, and that will give you extra room, even if the closet can't be stretched a size. Take the measurements of your closet so that the organizer will fit, and then you can buy the components to make you closet an organizer's dream, with additional shelves, rods, baskets and racks.

You may even want to consider a whole new closet organizer. Stores such as Ikea sell systems that you can mix and match to get the perfect combination for your space.

After all of this is done, make sure you keep all of the items where they belong. Don't' get back into the bad habit of just throwing things into you closet because you will end up with the same old mess. An organizer can only do so much!
