Once Upon a Theme: Fun Bed Rooms for Kids

Creating a bedroom space around theme beds is one way to turn that dreaded bedtime into a child's favorite part of the day. The possibilities are limited only by one's imagination; and what child doesn't have plenty of that? I think that the increase in the popularity of home decorating shows may be responsible for people examining their own living space and wanting to make it as inviting as possible. Having kids' beds in special shapes (that reflects your child's interests) may also encourage them to go to bed at night - and stay put until morning. (Now that's a theme that every parent can relate to!)

Toddler Beds

Toddler beds are designed to sit closer to the floor than standard twin or double beds. Any parent who's comforted a scared child after falling out of bed knows that this is a really big deal. Making the transition from crib to toddler beds can be challenging for a little one. Just imagine how much easier these transitions are if a child really loves his room? How do you make that happen?

One way is to involve your child in choosing the theme the room. Making the move to a "big kid" bed is a lot more appealing if that kids' bed is in the shape of a fire engine or has a fairy theme. Once you've selected the particular theme bed your toddler is interested in, you can see if matching sheets, pillow cases, comforters, and window treatments are available to complete the new look.

Theme Beds for Boys and Girls

Older children love choosing theme beds as part of their bedroom decor. If the young lady involved sees herself as a princess, she might dream of princess castle beds (complete with a slide), magical coaches, or a princess bunk bed. Just about any interest she has could be incorporated into a bedroom theme. Decorating kids rooms get a lot more fun when the young entertainer in your family may want a bedroom set up to look like a dressing room; or when your future adventurer sets up her room as an exotic foreign country.

Once the theme is set, you'll be able to choose accessories that tie into it. In addition to theme beds and bed linens, you can choose to add a decorative screen or put some posters or pictures up on the walls. Mirrors or beads can also be hung up, depending on the theme chosen.

Theme beds are not just for girls. Boys can also have a room designed to reflect their interests. Design ideas for decorating a boy's room include a kids' bedroom populated by his favorite animals, sleeping under the stars in an astronomy-themed room, or stepping back in time to his very own Jurassic Park!

Toddler beds and kids' beds are available in a number of styles, so getting a place for your youngster to sleep that fits in with the theme he or she has chosen will not be difficult. With the variety of theme beds available, narrowing the choice down to one theme may be your greatest challenge.
