Omaha high-low poker tips for beginner

By: Jack Randell-21230

Omaha for beginner could mean to concentrate more right from the pre-flop. As a rule it is not advisable to play loose bets in Omaha high/low without any nuts regardless of a beginner player or advanced player. Playing better and disciplined right from the pre-flop could be a best approach in Omaha for beginner category.

Some tips that can help with high-low in Omaha for beginner standards would be:-
• Never to play medium hands, because you can never make any nuts with medium hands.
• Do not get carried away by a medium straight, they are not better or blissful, they can be easily bet by someone who can have a nut. Especially a 5-6-7-8 can let you make a nut straight, but can let you loose the low! However, a middle low like T-J-Q-K is likely playable and can sometimes let you form a full house if some possibility for making a pair to make a full house shows up in the community cards.
• A-A-X-X should be thrown to fold than to draw. If you do not see any chances for flush better fold in the flop than to wait.
• For a starting hand with 2-3-4-5 you can expect to form a wheel in the community card, but if unfortunately no Ace comes up in the flop better fold.
• Alternatively in a 2-3-4-5 hand without an Ace in the flop can be played ahead for a straight or a full house if the community cards are 4-5-10 in the flop.

Omaha for beginner need not be without bluffing; in fact you need to start practicing bluffing at some stages. It is better to bluff only in short-handed Omaha high low games, bluffing in full-handed games requires lot of experience and odds mathematics and may not suit in an Omaha for beginner game.

• If you are going to come across a flop with 10-9-3 in a short-handed game you can raise a bet with A-3-7-8. Though you do not have any real card, your opponent would have placed a bet against you thinking you have a low cards considering an A-10. Now, if you are going to raise he may get confused and may give up especially he is a tight player.

Omaha for beginner can need lot of homework and there are several strategies and approaches to be mastered in Omaha high/low games in terms of psychology of the player and tells of bets, raise and re-raises. In Omaha high/low games you need to look and estimate the reason behind a raise and a re-raise before you decide your next approach.

A good memory is essential for Omaha for beginner games especially in Omaha high/low you need to have enough memory to form a mental map of your opponent hands!
