Modern Kitchen Rugs

By: Aretha Rudford

Cooks, decorators, and busy housekeepers agree: a kitchen is no place for carpet. A properly placed and attractively designed kitchen rug, however, can add charm, interest, and warmth to the room.

It's a matter of personal preference whether you will or will not have a kitchen rug. Many people can't fathom having a rug in a room where people are cooking and eating, where the smallest spill can create a sticky mess and a lifelong stain. However, in seeing how pretty a kitchen rug can be, even those folks might be persuaded to change their ways.

Kitchen rugs are no longer the frail floor coverings that they once were. Today's rug materials are more durable and made of easy to clean fibers. Spills are easily wiped up and stains don't penetrate as deeply or quickly as with those cotton rugs of the past.

There are so many different kinds of kitchen rugs available on today's market, that it's easy to find one to suit your kitchen's personality and your lifestyle. From classic country dcor to retro fruity themes, to sleek contemporary fashion, you're sure to find a rug to complement the color and character of your kitchen.

Are you about to begin a redecorating project? Kitchens in transition can benefit from the character and coziness of a new rug, too. If you current theme is bright floral and you're about to transform the room with a palette of natural materials and neutral tones, find a rug to fit both decorating schemes. A neutral rug with accents of green foliage can work well today, and when your project is complete.

Kitchen rugs are, for the most part, relatively inexpensive. There's really no reason why you shouldn't treat yourself to a new rug today, and then buy another after you redecorate. The kitchen rug that you have now will still be in good shape, so you can use it as a shoe mat on the porch or by the door.

Kitchen rugs really can add an element of warmth and personality to the room. If you have recently redecorated, or are just looking for a new way to "spice up" the existing decor, pick up a kitchen rug. This is also one of those very inexpensive but effective touches that can help to "sell" a room; so if you're planning on selling your home, it's certainly worth the investment.

When you've come to appreciate the charm and coziness that a contemporary kitchen rug brings to the room, you won't even think about spills and stains. With your feet warmly planted as you make your morning coffee, you'll wonder how you ever lived without one.
