Making the Garage Door Work Again

By: fongsuim

You’re frustrated that your garage door won’t open. Don’t run out and try to find a replacement just yet .There are a few repair tips that you could perform that just may be all you need to do for the door to work again.

In most cases, minor repair works can save you plenty of money by not making you buya whole new door .Here are some things to check out first to see if your door can be repaired:

Check the metal tracks - Garage doors run with a track system that allows the door to lift up and stored away into the garage. Inspectthe metal tracks and make sure they’re still securely tightened to their supports.

Tighten any bolts or nuts that appear loose - or, if needed, replace some bolts. Loose bolts or nuts can cause the door to jam up when attempting to travel along the track.

Check the rollers and tracks and make sure that there are not filled with debris which can cause the garage door to jam up. Clear and clean them if necessary.

If there appears to be a sludge-like substance, then you can try cleaning the tracks and rollers with regular household dish detergent. Once the debris is cleared away and the tracks are cleaned up, the door can run betterwhen you’re operating it. Using lubricant oil can also enable the door to operate more smoothly.

Check the tensions springs. Some doors require it to be in good shape to work. If not, you need to re-adjust the tension to get them to work properly again.

Replace them if there in bad shape. In addition to the spring, inspect the pulley system that go with the spring. Ensure that they are in good shape or replace them if necessary.

If your door has only one tension spring that’s located in the center of your track system and you think it needs to be repaired, call an expert to come do it. With the tremendous amount of tension that the spring holds, it would be too dangerous to try to repair or replace it yourself.

Check the remaining hardware. Sometimes it could be simply due to a loose hinge that needs tightening. If the hinge is faulty, you should not be afraid to replace it.

Check the door opener itself - If you have an electric garage door opener, then check your door opening device. It may just need new batteries. If it needs to be replaced completely, check with the manufacturer for the door opener you have to see if a replacement is available.

Finally if everything see be okay but the garage door still do not work, then it is time to contact a professional.
