Make Business Travel a Pleasure by Staying at a Bed and Breakfast

By: Jane Leisteiner

If you're beginning to feel like a tired road warrior from all those business trips, you need to get out of the rut. Dump that stale hotel room and search for a little more relaxation and travel experience -- try a bed and breakfast instead.

Eliminating the hallway noise, the bland rooms and the dull meals can actually turn your business travel into more of a short getaway. At the same time, you might find that your energy and spark return to your job.

My favorite place to find bed and breakfasts is at iLoveInns.com. In just a few seconds, I've found a few creative properties to consider.

Providence: Christopher Dodge House B&B - Want to experience the luxurious life of 19th-century Providence, Rhode Island? The Christopher Dodge House B&B is an 1858 three-story brick Italianate mansion that, while updated, still offers 11-foot ceilings, marble fireplace mantels, ornate plaster moldings and many original tin ceilings. Named for the family who built this mansion, the inn offers a computer, Wi-Fi Internet access and many other amenities.

New York City: 1871 House B&B - On a tree-lined street on the fashionable Upper East Side, this classic Brownstone offers stylishly elegant accommodations. Old World charm is evident in the decorative ironwork covering the front door, ornate moldings around windows, high ceilings and floors, and marble and wood fireplace mantelpieces. It was named one of the 100 best little hotels in New York City in 2003. A quote from a recent business traveler reveals the difference in staying in a little inn versus a business hotel, "I lived in New York for several years, and perhaps my favorite thing about the 1871 House was that it felt less like staying in a cold and touristy hotel, and more like I was using a friend's really fabulous apartment. I haven't felt so much like a New Yorker since I moved away".

Sacramento: The Amber House B&B - This bed and breakfast is actually comprised of two 1905 historic houses and is located just blocks from the capitol. The living space is inviting and guest rooms include Italian marble-tiled private bathrooms with Jacuzzi tubs for two and fireplaces. A full gourmet breakfast is served in your room. The Amber House also features an excellent working desk in each room and a variety of business services including using the inn's beautiful dining room for meetings.

Depending on the bed and breakfast inn you stay at, many also participate in the iLoveInns.com Buy-One-Night-Get-The-Second-Night-Free program. Cut a few dollars from your travel budget by selecting one of the 1,500 B&Bs that participate in the special program.
