How to slow down the aging process naturally?

By: Graham Waite

You start to experience aging within minutes of being born your body starts to change and from then on until the day you die your body will be constantly changing initially due to development and then through aging.

Almost before you have passed childhood your body is already beginning to age. Initially these changes will be so subtle they will be barely noticeable but they are start of the body slowly aging.

Your musculoskeletal system is the first part of your body to show signs of aging and is usually the first place to be effected by illness and disease usually associated with getting older. This is why after age 35 you should take precautions to reduce the risk of injury or disease as your bodies ability to repair lessens as it starts to age more rapidly.

You can do this by avoiding accidents when possible, abuse, excessive alcohol, drugs, tobacco and other unhealthy habits. You can improve your health by exercising, eating a healthy diet, socializing with positive people, and avoiding environmental toxins.

Keeping your doctor aware of any early changes in your well being is important as you get older and I encourage regular medical check ups as a good idea for most people. Make sure when discussing your health you make your doctors fully aware of any known family health issues so that preventative measures can be put in place early to prevent premature aging or worse.

As we discussed the body has already started significant aging by age 35 at which time your sensory organs may show signs of wear and tear. One example of this is the ability to read things close up which is caused by a weakening of the eye muscle know as presbyopia.

We should not be shocked at the number of people under 35 who need to wear aids for their vision either contact lenses (the choice of many) and glasses. By the time you get to age 40 there is around a one in five chance you will be wearing glasses or contact lenses. Currently around 90 million people over 40 suffer from presbyopia in the US today. A figure which is increasing year on year.

On top failing eye sight you might also experience some hearing loss. Although not that common some people may even be deaf by age 40 and most notice some partial hearing loss. This is a condition know as presbycusis which is directly related to aging. One effect of this condition might be certain sounds become in audible or sound harsh or just to loud.

You might have enjoyed seeing your favorite rock band perform but now you find this is just to much for your ears to cope with. This is because the aging process has affected your hearing. You might find high pitch sounds less audible or maybe it's difficult to hear people in a crowded room or when the TV is on.

Since the hearing becomes weaker, you will hear speech patterns differently. For instance, the use of K may sound distorted, which affects your understanding. In other words, a older person with hearing weakness may hear the CH in a word, such as Chute Up, and think that someone is telling them to shut-up.

The CH sounds different. It is possible to help people with hearing problems or partial deafness in a number of ways by using hearing aids or other assistive listening devices. In addition it helps to face the person you are talking to and maybe use body language or hand gestures to assist in any explanation or conversation. Also speak clearly and more slowly.

These are all signs of natural healthy aging, yet in some aging signs are less natural. For instance, if you unfortunate enough to contract lung cancer because of a history of smoking, or being around second-hand smoke, then the cause is not what nature intended.

As your body continues to age and approaches 40 years or so it is common for your body weight to increase. This is very common where families have a background of poor diet and a history of family weight problems. This is because the body stores more fat around 30% and needs less energy. On top of that wrinkles start becoming visble and other previously unnoticable signs of aging start to show.
