How To Select A ‘Comfortable’ Office Chair

By: Cathy Peterson

If you find yourself constantly fatigue accompanied by aches and pain, maybe its time to ditch your old office chair and find a new one. Many workers will ask, ‘what is the purpose of choosing an office chair’? The office chair isn’t like any other chair. For many workers it is the place where you spend the majority your office hours. Therefore, the comfort level is extremely important. Here are a few key steps when planning to purchase a new office chair.

When choosing an office chair, the first important point to consider is if you are able to adjust the size. An office chair should definitely have wheels at the bottom so that the person sitting in the chair can turn around and move back and forth without any complication.

If your job requires that you work on a PC, many chairs come equipped with a keyboard stand so that you may type without reaching over to a desk.

Make sure that the chair you select provides adequate space to comfortably do both. A chair with built-in wiring holes will facilitate electrical connections to be easily passed through from the monitor to the outlet beside the CPU, when a computer is placed atop the chair.

The second most important point to consider when purchasing a new office chair is to choose stick to black and navy blue. These colors are not only professional but they have a very classic look. If you decide to re-decorate your entire office, you won’t have to worry about finding new chairs to match. This is because, anyone who meets you at your chair, be it a customer, co-worker or a new employee, will be impressed with the way your chair looks.

If your job involves handling a lot of paper work, you need to choose a chair that can also accommodate the books and paper piles that you will be using regularly. In such situations, you can consider going in for a chair which is wide and has shelves where you can place your paper piles as to you work.

Finally, you need to choose a chair that is ergonomically correct. Your chair must provide enough space for your legs. Make sure that there is 3 ½ feet distance from each chair so that everyone, including you, can work in a comfortable work environment.

Workers with comfortable chairs produce quality work. Those with uncomfortable chairs are more concerned about their aches and pains than getting their work done. Those with uncomfortable chairs are more likely to take several bathroom breaks throughout the day than those with comfortable chairs.
