Herbs & Its Uses

By: Herbalist

Herb is any plant that is used for its culinary, medicinal, or fragrant properties. Herbs are such a diverse group of plants that it is very difficult to separate them into logical groups. Herbs (and other plants) have merit in many aspects of life, and the most common use of herbs for both medicinal purposes and for enjoyment is undoubtedly the making of herbal teas.

Herbs have been used for thousands of years by man as medicines, cosmetics, dyes, insect repellents and especially to add those wonderful flavors to meals. Medicinal plants and herbs contain substances known to modern and ancient civilizations for their healing properties.

During medieval times much use was made of herbs to treat medical conditions. In ancient cultures, the healers, or medicine people, spent their entire lives studying to be expert practitioners of herbal medicine. Now people are getting more and more interested in herbal remedies.

E Herbs have a variety of uses including culinary, medicinal, or in some cases even spiritual usage. A medicinal herb may be a shrub or other woody plant, whereas a culinary herb is a non-woody plant, typically using the leaves.

Natural medicine has been the precursor of modern medicine. This includes herbal medicine and phytotherapy, which is prevalent in Chinese, Ayurvedic (or Indian), and Greek medicine. Many synthetic medicines such as quinine and aspirin, commonly used in modern medicine, had their roots in traditional medicine.
