Do You Need A Shower In The Bathroom?

By: Ken Morris

As important as the bathroom is in our daily life, it is consigned to a lower status in most homes and are usually considered a pain. Too much plumbing, fixtures and moisture and the room serves little purpose besides the calls of nature and bathing.

There are many kinds of bathrooms in the modern home. A family bath, master bath, half or full bath, guest or private bath; a bath can be compartmentalized, or special use. The type of bath must be taken into consideration when improvements or repairs are being contemplated. There are also spacial bathrooms for people with disabilities or other special needs, such as old age.

When you think about the individual bathroom, take into account the type and amount of storage area you want, how much room you have and the layout of the room. You will have to decide on what type of shower or bathtub you want, as well as faces, fixtures, counters, flooring, ventilation, heating, electrical outlets and the style of decorating and what kinds of decorating accents you want to use.`

If you have a small bathroom, is there anything you can do to make more of the area usable space? You might be able to take a wall down next to a closet and create a larger bathroom.
A number of states have building codes that you must adhere to and you may also have to obtain a building permit before you can start work on remodelling a bathroom. Usually the permit is not expensive, and you will risk further expense if you do not have one because you will be fined.

The most expensive item in a bathroom remodelling project will be the fixtures such as the sink and vanity, bowl and bath/tub. But if you consider the added value that a new bathroom will bring to your home, it is worth the expense.

One of the most dramatic ways to create a new look in a bathroom is to replace the cabinets. You can choose an interesting design that will add an interesting appeal to an otherwise plain room. Adding an interesting design to your bathroom will give you pleasure as well as additional equity in your home.

There are a number of design styles to choose from, such as oriental, Victorian, Mediterranean, modern or European. Decorating styles can be tropical or rain forest or bright beach colors. You can bring styles of decorating into this room that you probably wouldn't consider using in another room.

The rain forest style is a perfect example. How about using a forest looking wallpaper, or a bamboo textured wallpaper, and then you can add plants and flowers ant other types of accents in the same style to create a jungle get-away.

Whatever style you choose, remember that improving your bathroom will bring added value to your home. It is important to go into this project carefully and analyse your needs, find examples and take notes, start a file of what you like, and then take it step by step.
