Bedroom Furniture For Your First College Dorm

By:

Are you going away to college? Do you need to choose bedroom furniture set that will meet your budget, your needs and your style? The dorm room is your home away from home and you want it to look and feel good but the problem that most students face is that they simply don’t have the money for elaborate decorating. The good news is that there are many affordable bedroom sets and decorating options for you and with some added creativity, you can have the best room in the dorm.

The first thing you want to look at is your bedding. After all, you are going to need your sleep to keep up with classes. Likely, you are going to need a small bed or bedroom set to fit in a dorm room that you might be sharing with one or more roommates. Platform Beds are very popular now. They are stylish, inexpensive, yet leave a sense of extra room.

In a dorm room, your bed is likely going to be the largest piece of furniture in the room and it often also doubles as a couch, study, desk and more. You want to choose accordingly and also choose a comforter or bedspread that will hold up to this frequent use and not show dirt easily. Many college students opt for day beds and similar bedding sets that double as day furniture as well as a bed to sleep in.

When you purchase a mattresss, be sure you take the time to actually lay on it. The right level of support for your back can help assure you a good nights sleep. Too soft and you could end up with a back ache. Too hard and you might have trouble falling asleep. How much time will you be spending in bed? Will you work on your computer there? Do you like to lounge in bed? You might want to invest in some large pillows to lay on if you spend a lot of time working or relaxing in bed.

Once you have chosen a comforter, it helps set the color scheme for the rest of the room. You also need to remember space when it comes to decorating your first college dorm room. You have limited space so many areas will double as dual functions. You need to be able to make the absolute most of the space which you have. Some ways of doing this are by getting an under-bed storage system or raising the bed with cement blocks. Then you can keep books, laundry, clothing, luggage or whatever you need to store there under the bed. You can make the most of your closet space by using closet organizers and plastic or wire bins.

Another way to add to your bedroom decorating is with wall hangings and plastic hooks that can be used for jackets, robes or even backpacks. Remember that small tables can double as computer work areas or a spot for your TV. Build around your bedroom furniture and create a dorm room that is both functional and stylish. Your college days will be much more enjoyable when you are happy in the room you are in.
