4 Tips for Avoiding Web Host Scams

By: J Charleston

Are you looking for a web hosting company for your next site? You really need to be wary in order to avoid web hosting scams. We put this article together to help you navigate the landmines and pitfalls of web hosting scams starting with the 4 tell-tale signs of a bad host. Here are the 4 tips:

Scarce Customer Service

Check on a webhosts support before you buy. You can test this out by calling in and asking a few questions before you buy. Send them a test question through their email address or online support system as well. Hosting is a big business; there is no reason for a major webhosting company to miss your call.

No limits

Do not believe it when your web hosts claims you will get unlimited space or bandwidth. No host is going to offer you unlimited space or especially bandwidth for an ultra low price. It just isnt going to happen. So if you see this anywhere, make sure to read the fine print or steer clear.

At the very least, if youre hosting company makes an offer like this, you need to realize it isnt going to last and your bandwidth or storage space will be cut short. The last thing you want is to have your site shut down because you went over your bandwidth quota for the month. This will cost you in customers and frustration. So remember that there will be a finite cap on your space and thats a good thing (otherwise theyre not being honest with you).

Web Hosting Contracts

Be wary of the web hosting company that forces you into signing a contract. If you sign a contract, your host will have no reason to offer you great service.

We suggest trying the host out first for a few months and then upgrade to a yearly payment plan after you are confident youd like to stay with them. If you are happy with the service, go ahead and sign up for a year if there is a discount.

Check for Uptime

The uptime is the percentage of time your site can be expected to be online. Uptime is usually expressed as a percentage. In reality, your site should be available to surfers on the web very close to all of the time (but it would be nearly impossible for any host to guarantee 100% of the time).

But beware, there is no such thing as 100% uptime. There will always be problems from time to time. Never fall for it when a hosting company claims they can offer you 100% uptime. Look for a host that is going to be honest with you, even if that means they claim you will get 99% uptime.

Its best if the host is upfront about their uptime and displays it clearly on their site. Uptime is a crucial aspect of web hosting. Learn more about uptime and web hosting reviews at http://top-5-web-hosting-charts.com/

Make sure take the time to find a reputable company who will ensure that your site will be online as much of the time as possible. It is expensive enough to pay for advertising, therefore you need to make sure your site will be up and running or youre throwing advertising money down the drain.

Avoid web hosting scams by following our tips. Again, these include; scarce customer service, unlimited anything, web hosting contracts, and uptime myths.
